Bike The Hills of Kentucky - Tours !

"Get off the flats, get up on the pedals and ...  Bike the Hills of Kentucky!"
Bike the Hills of Kentucky offers several different bike rides and we can even customize a ride based upon your ability.
Saturday and Sunday rides leave at 8:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.  During the Fall and Winter months, the afternoon ride will leave at 2:00 p.m.  Plan to be out 2 – 4 hours.  While most of the routes are on rural roads, you may encounter traffic during the course of the ride.
We can arrange rides for those guests wishing to ride during the week.  Simply contact us at info@bikethehillsofkentucky.com.
The cost is $45.00 per person, payable by check or cash.  Sorry, no debit or credit cards are accepted.  Light refreshments follow each ride. This is a BYOB.  Bring your own bike and helmet.   In the interest of safety, all riders must wear a cycling helmet.
We look forward to seeing you soon.

 OUT AND BACK
As the name implies, we ride out and ride back on the same road.  The Out and Back is the least demanding of our rides and possibly the most picturesque.   The 21 mile ride features winding lanes, farmlands, orchards and a welcoming tree canopy under which to cool off.  At its highest point, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the surrounding countryside.  This presents a great photo op and an even better excuse to catch your breath.  There are numerous shorter climbs and a few longer climbs.  The good news is that there is plenty of recovery time.

THE LOOP

“The Loop ” is a slightly more demanding ride than the “Out and Back” with a total climb of 1082 feet, and an elevation change of 2165 feet.  In the first half of the 22 mile ride you will encounter numerous shorter climbs.  Momentum is on your side.  This portion of the road is lightly traveled, giving you time to enjoy the working farms, sheep, cattle, horses and other wildlife.  The second half of the ride contains slightly rolling terrain, a couple of long gradual descents and three somewhat difficult climbs that remind you that YOU ARE INDEED BIKING THE HILLS OF KENTUCKY.

SOLITUDE

Remote and rural describes this ride.  It is also Mike’s favorite solo route, taking the rider 35 miles, climbing 2097 feet and changing 4192 feet of elevation.  A portion of the ride includes a valley that belongs on a postcard.  Be sure to bring your camera.  The route features numerous short climbs, which the average rider should have no difficulty with.  There are two descents of several miles each.  You know what this means—two difficult climbs.  There is no shame in going to the small chain ring or walking your bike up the hill.

SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE

This is our most diverse ride.  Portions of the ride pass through villages, scattered residential areas, valleys and remote farmland.  Our favorite part of the ride is a meandering stretch of roadway through a picturesque valley.  A good place for deer and turkey sightings!  It is also our most versatile ride, allowing us to tailor combinations of distance and difficulty.  The course may be as much as 40+ miles or as little as 17 miles.  Shorter distance DOES NOT EQUAL an easier ride.  The hills remain!  Climbing 2090 feet and experiencing 4176 feet in elevation change awaits the rider.

COUNTRY HAM SANDWICH RIDE

There is no candy coating this ride.  Local cyclists consider it to be a training ride.  The last time Mike rode this course, he swore that vultures were circling overhead.  There is  2595 feet of climbing and 5189 feet of elevation change in 45 miles.  In addition to the numerous, shorter, difficult climbs, there are two longer descents which, of course, are followed by two very long, steep climbs.  You will appreciate having that third chain ring.  The mid-point of the ride is at the Woodlawn Store.  This is a perfect place to stop and have one of their country ham sandwiches.  At this point you may be a bit fatigued.  The good news is we avoid the bigger hills on the ride back.  That’s not to say you are done with the hills, they just aren’t quite as intimidating.
