For some time, I began a typical Sunday with an early
morning 20-30 mile ride through the rural countryside of
Nelson
County. After some months,
friends and acquaintances began to express an interest in tagging
along. Someone would
contact me and ask “Are you riding on Sunday?” or “Where are
we riding?”
One of my companions, who spent considerable
time riding in
England
and Europe, commented that he had never experienced better riding
nor more attractive scenery than we have here in Nelson
County. Earlier in my life,
I too had ridden in
Europe
and agreed that he was right.
Given both the scenery and exercise benefits of riding the
rolling terrain, he and I concluded that
Nelson
County
and surrounding areas should be a Mecca
for cyclists and Bike the Hills of Kentucky was conceived.
Our goal is to provide a fun but challenging bicycle
tour tailored to the interests and fitness levels of our guests.
The rides are not time trials nor training rides to prepare
aspiring professional racers.
Guests are typically “average” riders.
The “nice and easy” pace allows time to catch one’s
breath after climbing, enjoy the countryside, and time for photo
ops. You may even be
lucky enough to see a water buffalo!
